Rodrigo Baptista 

PASC/SVSA Executive Director 


Rodrigo brings a wealth of knowledge to the PASC/SVSA organization with over 20 years of coaching experience. He carries a U.S. Soccer National A License and a NSCAA Premier National Diploma.


An active member in the local youth soccer community, Rodrigo serves as the executive director of the Palo Alto Soccer Club/Silicon Valley Soccer Academy


Rodrigo oversees all administration, programs management, and strategic planning for both PASC & SVSA.


In addition to his work as the executive director for PASC/SVSA, Baptista has served as the Stanford Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach. During his tenure at Stanford he has helped Stanford to win the Pac12 conference as well as earning the NSCAA Pacific Region Staff of the Year honors in 2016.

 

Rodrigo has also previously worked as an assistant coach with San Jose State men’s and women’s soccer programs. He served as a goalkeeper coach with the teams and fulfilled a variety of responsibilities for both programs including recruiting, budgeting, scheduling and serving as the camp director.

 

Prior to work at San Jose State, Rodrigo worked as the head coach for the men’s and women’s Mission College soccer programs where he earned California Community College Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2013.

 

Rodrigo also has a successful professional coaching experience, working as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach with the FC Gold Pride of the Women’s Professional League from 2009-11. He helped guide the team to the 2010 WPS championship during his time with the team. 

 

Rodrigo has extensive experience with Futsal and has participated in numerous competitions internationally, including the FIFA Intercontinental Futsal Cup.

 

A native of Rio De Janeiro, Baptista was a member of the Brazilian team Fluminense Football Club. He played collegiately at San Jose State and Foothill College. 

 

Rodrigo graduated from San Jose State in 2008 with his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport management.

Savio Carrijo 

PASC Senior Technical Director - SVSA Academy Director 


Savio currently holds the position of PASC Senior Technical Director and SVSA MLS Next Academy Director, overseeing various aspects of the club. With over two decades of coaching experience in the United States, his coaching journey, which began in 2003, includes diverse roles in collegiate, high school, and club soccer. He has made significant contributions to collegiate soccer, having served as an assistant coach for the San Jose State University Men's Soccer team. Furthermore, he has held the position of associate head coach for both men's and women's soccer teams at Mission College, showcasing his versatility and expertise in the sport.


Savio's commitment to coaching excellence is demonstrated through his impressive qualifications. He holds a USSF National A License and the National NSCAA Premier Diploma, reflecting his dedication to continuous learning and professional development. His academic background includes a B.S. in Health Science with a minor in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, supplemented by an AA in Human Performance from Foothill College.


Savio's passion for soccer extends back to his early years in Brazil, where he began his playing career with Goias Esporte Clube. Upon relocating to the Bay Area in 2003, he made a mark on the futsal scene by joining the World United Futsal team, clinching three U.S. national championships. His talents also took him to the Intercontinental Futsal Cup in Algave, Portugal, in 2007. Savio's journey in the United States continued with a Student-Athlete full scholarship at San Jose State University, where his performance earned him Scholar-Athlete awards. He also played for San Jose Frogs FC, a USL Premier Development League team based in San Jose, California.


With his rich playing background and coaching expertise, Savio is a valuable asset in the game, enhancing player development and fostering a deep love for the sport.

Jim Mackay 

PASC Director 


Jim Mackay has over 30 years of soccer experience which he acquired having played and coached at various levels. Growing up in Scotland, he played High School, Club and Semi-Pro Soccer in Los Angeles. 


After playing, Jim had the opportunity to start coaching a U15 girls’ team in Santa Monica in 2006, he then moved to El dorado county where he coached a boys U19 team for a season in 2007.


After moving to the bay area, Jim then started with Palo Alto Soccer Club in 2008 and during this time he has coached multiple teams, different levels and age groups and he brings his extensive experience to Northern California.


Jim is currently the Director of Coaching for the boys and girls 7 v 7 & 9 v 9 age groups.


Jim’s vision with Palo Alto Soccer Club is not only to teach the players the fundamentals along with advanced technical and tactical soccer skills, but also to help them grow as individuals. His focus is on helping the players understand the game of soccer while inspiring and supporting their own individual growth and development of character. His goal is to instill these core values so they may grow as individuals with deep respect for family, friends, teammates, as well as fellow competitors and referees.

David Madrigal 

PASC Director


David Madrigal currently serves as the Director of Coaching for PASC. As a Director and technical leader, he is responsible for the creation and implementation of the Player Development Plan. David works closely with the leadership group and the coaching staff at the club level. David is fully invested with the PASC Community, he has coached in the club for over 13 years at all levels boys and girls. David started his coaching career at a young age, a Coach’s son, he grew up loving the sport and now has transformed his passion into a profession. 


David has coaching experience in different levels of competition including DA, MLS Next, GA, and NPL. He holds a B License and is currently working on DOC Licensed from United States Soccer Federation. 


David is able to apply his knowledge from both his teaching comprehension and coaching expertise on the field. He also has a Kinesiology degree with an emphasis in pedagogy. 


When David is not coaching, he and his wife Esmeralda enjoy watching their kids' activities. Their two sons, David and Milan are currently playing for PASC and daughter Eliana is a gymnastics enthusiast.

Eric Madrigal 

PASC/SVSA Director of Soccer & Registrar 


Eric Madrigal is a highly accomplished soccer coach with a Masters Degree in Sports Management, a decade of dedicated service with Palo Alto Soccer Club and Silicon Valley Soccer Academy, and the professional coaching U.S.S.F. B License Coach certification.


With an educational background rooted in Sports Management, Eric brings a unique blend of academic knowledge and hands-on experience to the field of coaching. His commitment to the youth soccer and its development is evident through his extensive tenure with PASC and SVSA, where he has spent ten years tirelessly fostering talent and cultivating a culture of community within the organization.


Eric Madrigal's coaching philosophy is centered on the development of well-rounded, disciplined, and passionate athletes who not only excel on the field but also in life - he lives by the mantra, ’It’s not a game, it’s a lifestyle’. His unwavering commitment to the growth and success of his players, coupled with his academic and professional qualifications, distinguishes him as a soccer coach who is dedicated to shaping the future of the sport in the Bay Area.

Paul Hart 

SVSA GA Technical Director


Paul is responsible for the direction and development of players, coaches, and coaching programs within the Club environment. He has created a sustainable system that provides SVSA coaches with support whilst developing the future of talented soccer players in their Club.


In addition to his work as svsa director Paul Hart serves as Stanford Womens soccer assistant coach. Before working at Stanford, Hart spent the 2020-21 season on staff at Pac-12 rival Washington. Under Hart’s guidance, the Huskies posted one of their best campaigns, concluding the 2021 spring season with a 10-4-4 record, a Sweet Sixteen appearance, a third-place finish in the Pac-12 and a pair of top 15 rankings – No. 14 TopDrawer Soccer and No. 15 United Soccer Coaches.


Under his tutelage, Husky goalkeepers limited the opposition to a program-record 12 goals on the season. Olivia Sekany had one of the best season by a Husky goalkeeper, setting the program record for goals-against-average (0.62), while her eight clean sheets were tied for the fourth-most in a single season.


Prior to his time in the Pacific Northwest, Hart spent two seasons at Oklahoma as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, including a three-month stint as the interim head coach.


Hart has extensive roots in California, having spent time at San Francisco (2016-18) as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, and at UC Santa Barbara (2012-16). With the Gauchos he served as the goalkeeper’s coach for both the men’s and women’s programs (2012-14), helping the men’s team to Big West titles in 2013 and 2014. Hart also spent 2014-16 as UC Santa Barbara’s head strength and conditioning coach. The Gauchos swept the Big West titles in men’s and women’s soccer, with the men advancing to the Sweet Sixteen. UC Santa Barbara also won the Big West Commissioner’s Cup in 2015.


A former professional goalkeeper, Hart is a 2004 graduate of West Texas A&M. He was the Lone Star Conference’s Goalkeeper of the Year all four seasons while pursuing his degree in sport and exercise science. He also has a Master’s of Science in sports performance and injury prevention from California University (Pennsylvania).

Rafael Soares 

Director of Goalkeeping 


Coaching in the U.S since 2003 he has served as a coach in the collegiate, high school and youth club level. Rafael has served as an assistant coach for Division 1 school San Jose State University Women’s Soccer (2014-15) and has earned NSCAA Mountain West Conference Championship in 2015. Prior to San Jose State University, he worked as an assistant coach Saint Francis High School and Washington High School. In addition, he has coached youth teams at Sunnyvale Alliance, FC Fremont, Mountain View - Los Altos SC, and Palo Alto Soccer Club. Rafael currently holds the Goalkeeper Program Director role at Palo Alto Soccer Club and coaches the 05 Silicon Valley USSDA team. 


Licenses and Coaching Education - Rafael holds his USSF National B License and the National NSCAA Premier Diploma.


Playing Experience - Born and raised in the State of Rio Grande do Sul-Brazil, Rafael begun his professional soccer career in 1993, playing for Esporte Clube Novo Hamburgo, in the same city he grew up. From 1993 to 2002, Rafael played as a PRO-level goalkeeper for five different clubs in south of Brazil.


Personal Statement - I live in Gilroy-CA with my wife Patricia, daughter Luna and son Julian. I grew up following my father's steps on soccer fields every weekend for my entire childhood. Soccer has been my passion ever since I was a little kid. I was able to pursue my dream and play soccer professionally thanks to my determination and family's support. When I moved to the US in 2002 I soon started my coaching career giving me the opportunity to share my knowledge, passion and experience to those whom I coach.

Ken Mburu 

PASC Recreational Program Director 


Coach Ken was born and grew up in Kenya, in the northwest outskirts of the capital city Nairobi. He has loved playing and coaching soccer for as long as he can remember. A natural teacher who has taught at college and also served as a pastor previously among others, Coach Ken was only 8 years old when his younger cousins started calling him Coach Ken because he took it upon himself to teach them how to play. Little did know he would be called Coach Ken by thousands and even found Coach Ken Soccer Academy, easily the biggest recreational soccer company in the Bay Area with about a thousand players attending programs each season, all year round.


Coach Ken played collegiate soccer for Egerton University, Njoro, Kenya, and for various clubs. He immigrated to USA in 2002 and started coaching younger players in 2003. He has since coached thousands of players, some of whom have gone on to play at the highest levels. 


Ken chose to specialize in coaching younger players and he is easily one of the leading experts in the field of coaching younger and new players. He has evolved curriculum and methods of coaching those levels, with much success.


Besides his two decades’ experience coaching younger players, Coach Ken has a national diploma in soccer coaching from United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Academy.


Coach Ken is the director of the Palo Alto Soccer Club Youth Development Program (YDP). YDP offers Monday to Friday classes, weekend classes, Rec league and Sunday camp (new) and holiday break camps. YDP is all year round.

Mike is home grown from Palo Alto and Gunn High School. In college he was the starting center striker at San Diego State a zillion years ago (before Eric Wynalda and Marcelo Balboa). Went over to the dark side and became a ref 20 years ago. "Love soccer, Love kids, perfect job for me."
